In 1981, Mr Harry Ridgwell started Thomas Lloyd as a small business dedicated to making stylish leather sofas at affordable prices. In order to keep prices down, he pioneered the then novel idea of selling quality leather furniture, such as our traditional leather Chesterfield sofas by cutting out the retailer and selling direct to the public. Nowadays, with the rise of online shopping, everything you buy seems to come direct. However, back then it really was a bold and unique concept and one that has proven immensely successful and which we have stuck with ever since.
Thirty years later, Thomas Lloyd is still a family business run by Mr Ridgwell’s two sons, Tom and Lloyd, and has grown into one of the largest manufacturers of hand-made quality leather furniture in the UK. At Thomas Lloyd we have always believed in British quality, which is why all of our furniture is still produced exclusively here in the United Kingdom.
These days, most other furniture companies have outsourced production to Eastern Europe or the Far East, but at Thomas Lloyd we continue to hand-produce every item in our range from our factory in South Wales – just as we have done for the last 30 years. We believe that this enables us to produce sofas which are higher in quality and value as well as providing a much more efficient service and speedier delivery than you will find at your local retailer.
Also pioneered back in 1981 and still very much with us today is our unconditional 21-day money-back guarantee. If your furniture arrives and for whatever reason is not what you expected, we will collect it and refund the full cost of the furniture, alternatively, you may exchange it for another style, size or colour. All we ask is that we receive your written instruction with 21 days from the date of delivery.
All Thomas Lloyd furniture is also guaranteed for two years after delivery against any defects in materials or workmanship (allowing for fair wear and tear). In the unlikely event of such a defect occurring we will repair your furniture free of charge.
Better quality, Made in the UK, at lower prices and all backed with solid guarantees – that’s the idea that he started with in 1981, and it remains the cornerstone of our business to this day.
