5 tasteful ways to compliment your leather sofa

With the nights getting crisper, we will find ourselves spending a lot more time on our sofas in the evenings. Whether your leather sofa is looking a little tired, or you would simply like to compliment or accessorise it, there are plenty of ways in which you can give it a fresh lease of charm. Not only will the tips in this article compliment the appearance of your sofa, but they will also make it more inviting for you and anyone that visits your home.

Use throws to transform your sofa into a charming little lair

With Christmas fast approaching, it’s nice to just relax and watch one of your favourite festive films. You will be amazed at how much of a difference the addition of a throw can make. In fact, a throw on top of a leather sofa is regarded by many as the icing on the cake. The great thing about throws is that they are available in a plethora of colours, cosy fabrics and sizes.

When you’re not using your throw, it will act as a subtle, yet cosy design feature and provide that homely, lived in feel that so many people want to achieve. Do take into consideration the colour of your leather sofa when choosing a throw, though. While a complete contrast in colour can be a good thing, a complete contrast in styles could potentially look odd.

Incorporate a foot stool that is in-keeping with the style of your leather sofa

Perhaps the most popular way to complement a leather sofa is to pair it with a foot stool. If you do go down this route, the key thing to remember is that the colour and fabric must be in-keeping with the style of your leather sofa. As well providing you with somewhere to rest your tired feet, footstools can also be used as seating and storage space. Essentially, a footstool is like an extension of a sofa. We realise the aesthetics and practicality that foot stools can lend to a living room, this is why we make footstools that match the styles of each of our leather sofas.

Use cushions as accents

While some leather sofas look great on their own, there’s no denying that cushions make wonderful accents. For instance, if you have a dark brown Chesterfield sofa, opt for cushions which are at the other end of the colour scale. This will create a nice contrast! Similarly, if you’re working with bolder colours, such as a red leather sofa or a black leather Chesterfield, choose a contrasting colour palette for your cushions. Furthermore, cushions are also available in a huge variety of colours, shapes, sizes and materials.

Not all of your cushions have to be the same, though! Some people position one large cushion in the centre of their sofa and then position a smaller cushion either side of it. If your leather sofa is relatively large, then 3 identically sized cushions can be used to make a neat and organised design statement. As you will have noticed from looking at the photographs of our leather sofas, placing one cushion in the corner of the sofa can often be enough to provide a stylish contrast.

Leave it untouched

Some leather sofas look just as good without being dressed up, especially if they have really nice design features that need to be prominent. Take Chesterfield sofas, for instance, they have become extremely well known for their deep buttoned upholstery and rolled arms. These are the features that make them a truly wonderful piece of furniture. That being said, placing a folded throw on the arm of a Chesterfield can make for a classic, sophisticated look.

Decorate the wall behind your sofa to create one big feature area

In the paragraph above we touched upon how leaving a sofa untouched is sometimes the best option. Here is an idea that will allow the key design features of your sofa to stand out. If your sofa is positioned near to the wall, place various pieces of wall art behind it. This idea is great because not only does it create a large focal area, but it can also compliment your sofa beautifully. The same result can also be achieved with one large piece of wall art. This idea is often seen implemented in small living rooms that are in need of a focal point.
