Choosing the perfect leather sofa for your home

Leather sofas can add a sense of elegance and luxury to any home, and with them being available in a wide variety of styles, colors and sizes; it can be hard to choose the right one. Before buying a Chesterfield leather sofa, you should weigh up the positives and negatives of the different styles that are available to you. These sofas used to be very cost prohibitive and considered a real luxury, but advancements in modern technology have allowed the production of leather sofas to become more efficient.  It’s definitely worth taking the time to ensure you make the right purchase, as buying a durable, high-quality sofa is a purchase that will pay for itself over the years.

Below are a number of useful tips to help you choose the ideal sofa for your home:

Choosing the colour

Practicality is the first thing to consider when choosing a colour for your leather sofa. If you have children, the last thing you will want to be doing is wiping mucky finger marks from a crème or white leather sofa. Brown leather sofas, especially in aniline leather, bring an element of character and warmth to a living room and a red leather sofa can create a great counterpoint to neutral décor. Cream and tan leather sofas bring out the aesthetics of a polished wooden floor and can be accessorised with colourful accessories, choose lime green, purple, or turquoise to create a contemporary appearance for your living room.

Choosing the material

In deciding to buy a leather sofa rather than a standard fabric one you will have done so for numerous reasons. Leather sofas are soft, durable, and look great, they are fairly easy to maintain and will keep their attractive appearance for a very long time, but this cannot be said for all sofas, you will need to be quite fussy when choosing the right leather material. It is important to choose a leather sofa that is made using high-quality leather. Leather is available in numerous grades. The softest forms of leather tend to be the priciest, although on occasions they are not as durable and tough as the medium grade leathers which offer a compromise between comfort and resistance to staining.  It is recommended that you avoid the cheap low-quality leather sofas; these are often susceptible to cracking. If you are in any doubt, ask a sales representative or manufacturer for more information about the quality of leather.

Size

When choosing the size of your leather sofa, you will need to exercise considerable levels of care. If you are viewing a sofa in a furniture store or showroom then it can be easy to be misled. The large open spaces in furniture stores can create the perception that a sofa is much smaller than it actually is. You should measure the amount of space you have available in your room, consider how many people will regularly need to lounge in your home, and check how accessible the space is,  just to make sure that the chosen sofa will fit through your doorway.

Choosing a style

Leather sofas are available in a diverse range of colours, styles and shapes. These can range from the extremely modern sofas with sleek likes and minimalist features, through to the retro styles that emulate furniture from a previous era. There are also a number of styles that fall between these two examples. Chesterfield Leather Sofas are great if you’re looking for something that’s classic and timeless. When choosing a sofa style you should take into consideration the style and decor of your room, but it doesn’t have to be dictated bit it. Many homeowners choose a sofa style that is completely different to their home decor; this is often considered as chic, for example, mixing the old with the new.

Look for guarantees

Another important aspect to consider when buying a leather sofa is the guarantee, is there one available? If so, how long does it last? New sofas can cost a considerable amount of money so it’s recommended that you buy from a furniture store that provides a guarantee, this is important if you want to protect your investment. Remember that a high quality, genuine leather sofa can last for years if you treat and maintain it correctly.
