Why leather sofas are a better investment than fabric sofas

The amount of money invested vs. years of usage

You may feel that the extra money you pay for a leather sofa is unjustified and expensive; however, you should consider the amount of use that you will get from a leather sofa. By taking the initial outlay and realising that leather sofas will last for a considerable amount of time longer than fabric ones, you will realise that it’s a better and more cost-effective investment in the long run.

Aesthetics

Leather sofas can add a real sense of elegance and sophistication to a living room. In the past leather was a material that was only available to the super-wealthy. With the cost of leather becoming more affordable, leather sofas are becoming increasingly popular amongst homeowners. Leather has evolved in recent years to include a wide variety of colours, ranging from Ferrari red leather sofas to creamy tan Chesterfield sofas and bright yellow leather Chesterfields; all of these are colours that are not usually associated with the animal in which the hide comes from.

Durability

Leather is a highly durable fabric. This means it can stand up to any rough treatment received from children. For example, if a drink is spilt on a leather sofa, all it takes is a quick wipe with a damp cloth to remove the spill and return the leather to its original condition. Leather is a strong material that can withstand unfortunate events that would scratch or tear a traditional fabric sofa. As leather matures it becomes more soft and supple, so as the years go by, rather than looking tired and faded, a leather sofa will actually look better.

Comfort

As leather is a completely natural fabric, it has the ability to adjust to the changes in temperature from outside weather. The fabric breathes, allowing it to keep cool during the summer months and warm during the winter months. The leather will also absorb any natural oils from your skin and become softer as it matures; removing the common stiffness that many new leather sofas come with. A leather sofa will adjust to match your body shape, making it more comfortable over time.

Environmentally friendly

With concerns for the environment growing, increasing amounts of homeowners are now searching for an eco-friendly fabric to use in their homes. Leather sofas fulfil this requirement as they come from a renewable source (the hides of cows) and are a natural fabric. Although there are often treatments applied to the leather, this process just adds durability and colour to the fabric.

Leather sofas are a considerable investment that can completely transform a living room. It’s important to choose a sofa that not only matches the interior of your home but will stand the test of time. Opting for a low-quality sofa may seem like a good idea, but a high-quality leather sofa will last a lot longer and prove itself to be the more cost-effective option in the long run.
